TIME: 30 minutes
MAKES: 4 mugs

Embrace the warmth during these winter nights with our easy hot mulled apple cider recipe. This healthy and perfectly spiced blend of apples and berries is a delight for the whole family. The fragrant simmer of cinnamon, oranges, cloves, berries, and apples on your stove will surpass any scented candle. Before we dive into the recipe, apple cider vinegar is fermented apple juice turned vinegar, while apple cider is a non-alcoholic beverage made from apples. Our hot apple cider is a deliciously warm drink crafted from apple juice, with the option to sweeten it naturally using maple syrup if your sweet tooth needs a little more than the beautiful berries and apples!

Ingredients

4 cups unsweetened apple juice
1 cup frozen berries of choice
3 cinnamon sticks or 1 teaspoon ground
1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon orange zest (the rest of the orange can be used for garnish)
1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup (optional for added sweetness)

Method

  1. Combine the cinnamon sticks and cloves in a sauce pan and toast over a medium-high heat until they start to smell fragrant or about 5 minutes stirring frequently so they don't burn.
  2. Add the nutmeg, and stir to combine.
  3. Add in the apple juice, berries and orange zest and turn up the heat to bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Once it has boiled, reduce heat to a simmer and continue to cook for 15-20 minutes. If you have more time you can keep it on the stove depending on how strong you like your cider.
  5. Pour juice through a fine sieve of cloth into a serving pitcher. Allow to cool slightly before pouring into mugs.
  6. Garnish with orange slices or cinnamon sticks for stirring.

Notes: The mixture can be kept in the fridge for 7-10 days and reheated when needed or kept in the freezer in an airtight container for up to 12 months.
